Hey! A little hot for May don't you think! 99 degrees! And as if it wasn't hot enough, Michael Pilla blistered the track with qualifying times as much as 4 tenths of a second faster than the field. That was pretty much the story all day, Michael lead and we tried to follow.
I did the best I could with what I had. Loose, loose, loose and more loose. My crew chief keep waiting for the track to "come to him". Next time I think we better get a little closer to the track and holler!
Well, we qualified 5th in heavy and 8th in light out of 11 karts. Not exactly stellar but I can race up 6 or 8 positions so we were pretty confident. In heavy I got a good start but, like a say, Michael took off and left us. I did everything I could to get by the second place kart but he was cool and held his line. In light I tried to get down in the groove on the start but so did everybody else and I wound up way in the back, still in 8th but with a long way to go. I was still loose but after about 5 or 6 laps my tires started to come in and I moved forward to 5th. Dakotah Stevens and I got hooked up in a draft and it looked like we were going to blow by everyone and and go to the front. Then, on the 16th lap a caution came out and my tires went back away. I fell back to 6th where I finished the race.
