Report
The first day we had to qualify without any practice.
We missed the first practice which meant I couldn't go out for the 3rd
practice. On the second practice, my crew chief forgot to check the fuel.
The tank was empty so I didn't even run a complete lap! During
first round qualifying we got the data we needed to get set up for second
round and I made the race. Starting in 27th position I raced as hard as
I could and finished in 12th place.
The second day wasn't much better on crew performance
and then our tach quit working because of a short in one of the leads.
We couldn't find the problem until just before the race so we had to guess
at gear selection all day. Our first guess for first round qualifying
was way wrong but we guessed again and qualified fastest in second round.
Then there was the matter of allowing for the weight of the fuel used.
I race up from 20th starting position to 6th place but that quickly vanished
at the scales when I couldn't make weight. I was 1 lb light!
